Beyond Bristol: Wetland to marina

Looking back towards The Barbican and Portishead Pier from The Rhyne

This lovely stroll should be enough to brighten anyone’s day. Walk Twenty-Six: Portbury Wharf and Portishead Marina contrasts the wetland nature reserve of Portbury Wharf with the modern residential development of Port Marine and Portishead Quays Marina. It’s a winning combination of big skies, water and wildlife with a very smart urban environment.

I’m also pleased to announce my intention to add two further walks to this collection. In future updates, Walk Thirty-Two ‘Shirehampton and Kings Weston House’ will visit an historic centre, a fine country house and airy natural spaces alongside the River Avon, while Walk Thirty-Three ‘Ham Green and Pill’ will explore one of Bristol’s nearest villages, which also manages to be a world away.

Next time: A visit to one of Bristol’s major country parks, a lovely river valley and a fairytale hamlet.
